The GPU makers state that the Battery Boost technology pioneered when the 800M series was launched will ensure gamers get more than a hour out of their rigs before it is time to recharge, by regulating the performance of the GPU to ensure it only uses enough power to keep your game running smoothly and stepping up or down depending on how visually demanding the game is.īefore we go, here’s where Nvidia plans to hide its little GPUs… right below the space bar, how clever. GameĪ concern for laptop gamers at times is how this ramped up performance will affect the battery life of their laptops – a problem which Nvidia marketers have answered eloquently and without offending any cultural groups. Note that all games were tested in 1080p. Nvidia provided some performance figures for its 980M and 970M, which I could not find on Nvidia’s site but which were sent to Anandtech, which have been tabulated below. Other laptops, pictured below, which will feature the new graphics units include the Gigabyte P35 and Aorus X7, and the the Clevo P150 and P650.įret not, we will be putting a 900M laptop feature – hopefully with local pricing – together in the coming days. The Asus comes standard with the GTX 980 4GB, while the MSI GT72 gives you the option of either the 980M 8GB or 970M. The Asus G751 series and the MSI GT and GS series both feature on Nvidia’s product page. Nvidia also revealed a bevy of laptops which will be fitted with either a 980M or 970M. The 980M and 970M’s key specifications have been summarised in the table below. That’s a bold promise, considering the GTX 980 has a fan the size of a helicopter blade to keep it cool, costs just under R10,000, and beats its mobile counterpart in all aspects in terms of specifications. The graphics units are aimed at gamers who don’t want to sacrifice performance when moving to laptop gaming, with Nvidia promising the GTX 980M will deliver 75% of the performance of the recently released GTX 980. To meet this demand, the hardware maker has launched its 900M series, starring the GeForce GTX 980M and GTX 970M.

Lets just hope it isn't a Kepler rebrand at any rate.According to Nvidia, there has been a five-fold increase in gaming notebook sales over the past three years as more PC enthusiast move from towers to the more portable alternative. Also, so far the only competition AMD has provided is with the Mobility Tonga GPU M295X, which hasn't been officially released yet but can be found in Apple iMac devices. The ideal case would have been to move to 16nm FinFET+ before recycling a generation continuously but I guess second generation Maxwell is better than kepler any day. It also seems like Nvidia is getting ready to run the Maxwell 28nm node for a good year or two now. However, it seems like we are only getting the GTX 960M and the GTX 965M. NVIDIA G-SYNC Monitors Big Format Gaming Displays (BFGD) GeForce NOW GeForce Experience. Interestingly we have been expecting the GTX 960M for a long time and also the GTX 975M. On the other hand, all recent Nvidia cores ranging from the GK210, to GM204 and even the big maxwell GM200 are present. , the shipping database, is one of the most reliable ways to check if a GPU has actually taped out and so far there is no sign of any GM206 or GM208. The reason I would not go with any other core like the GM206 or GM208 is because neither of these cores have even been heard of so far. NVIDIA_DEV.13D9 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M" Here is the relevant clause from the update:

Maxwell's efficient architecture would make it very ideal for laptop conditions especially if you are talking about a midrange GPU such as the GTX 965M, whose power consumption should be pretty low comparatively. Either ways, the fact that there are more Maxwell GPUs inbound is interesting news for mobility fans. It is possible that the GTX 960M is based on an older Kepler rebrand or even, that the GPU isn't coming at all.

The nomenclature of the leaked card puts it ahead of the GTX 960M while behind the GTX 970M out of which, only the latter has been released.
